BusinessPalo Alto Networks to Acquire Protect AI for Enhanced AI Security

Palo Alto Networks has announced its plans to acquire Protect AI, a startup focused on securing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is expected to close by the first quarter of fiscal year 2026. This move is part of Palo Alto’s ongoing strategy to enhance its cybersecurity offerings as AI and ML applications continue to gain traction across industries.

According to Anand Oswal, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Network Security at Palo Alto Networks, the acquisition will enable businesses to build AI applications with a more robust security framework. By integrating Protect AI’s solutions into Palo Alto’s newly announced Prisma AIRS platform, the company aims to expand its AI security capabilities to meet the rising demands for purpose-built defenses against cyber threats specific to AI technologies.

With the increasing adoption of AI models and ecosystems by large enterprises and government agencies, new vulnerabilities have emerged, creating the need for advanced security measures. Protect AI has carved out a niche in this critical area, and its inclusion in Palo Alto’s portfolio will provide customers with comprehensive protection for their AI-driven systems. Protect AI’s solutions will enhance Palo Alto’s ability to secure the rapidly evolving AI landscape, addressing threats that traditional cybersecurity methods may not be equipped to handle.

Protect AI’s CEO, Ian Swanson, expressed confidence that joining forces with Palo Alto will allow the company to scale its mission of securing AI applications for businesses and users of all sizes. The acquisition comes at a time when Palo Alto Networks is experiencing significant growth, with its stock price up 23% over the past year, pushing its market capitalization close to $120 billion.

Palo Alto Networks is scheduled to report its third-quarter earnings on May 21, and this acquisition reflects the company’s commitment to staying ahead in the increasingly complex world of cybersecurity, particularly as AI technologies become more integrated into the fabric of modern business operations.
