Lucid Misses Second-Quarter Targets, Delays Affordable EVs to 2027 Amid Operational Reset

BusinessAutomotiveLucid Misses Second-Quarter Targets, Delays Affordable EVs to 2027 Amid Operational Reset

Lucid Group missed second-quarter expectations and pushed the launch of its more affordable electric vehicles to the second half of 2027, as the luxury automaker undertakes a sweeping operational reset under new leadership.

The California-based company declined to provide updated financial guidance, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding an ongoing business review. The delay to its lower-priced models marks a significant setback for a manufacturer that has struggled to scale production and stem persistent losses.

New Chief Executive Silvio Napoli, who took the helm earlier this year, had already suspended the company’s production expectations as part of his broader effort to overhaul operations. The latest results underscore the depth of the challenges facing the automaker as it seeks a path to profitability.

As part of the reset, Lucid is targeting roughly $1.4 billion in savings during 2026 through cost cuts, a move aimed at preserving cash while mounting losses continue to weigh on the balance sheet.

The company has built its reputation on high-end vehicles such as the Air sedan, but its ambitions to reach a wider market depend heavily on delivering cheaper models capable of competing at scale. Postponing those launches to late 2027 pushes back a critical milestone in that strategy.

Lucid’s difficulties echo broader turbulence across the electric vehicle sector, where several manufacturers have revised timelines and production goals amid cost pressures and shifting demand. Rival startups have faced comparable headwinds, with some, like Rivian recalibrating its own annual targets in response to market conditions.

The company’s decision to withhold guidance signals caution as management evaluates its product roadmap, spending priorities and manufacturing capacity. This development comes as investors increasingly scrutinize the ability of emerging EV makers to survive without repeated capital raises.

Napoli’s reset centers on tightening operations and controlling expenditure, but the delayed model launches raise questions about how quickly Lucid can broaden its customer base. Without a mass-market offering, the automaker remains dependent on a narrow, premium segment.

The results are expected to intensify pressure on the company to demonstrate progress in the coming quarters. Whether the cost reductions and strategic adjustments can restore momentum will likely become clearer as the operational review advances and the revised 2027 timeline draws nearer.
