BusinessVisa to Acquire Fraud Intelligence Firm BioCatch in $2.4 Billion Cybersecurity Push

Visa has agreed to acquire BioCatch, a provider of behavioral biometrics and fraud intelligence, in a deal valued at $2.4 billion, marking a significant expansion of the payments giant’s cybersecurity capabilities.

The acquisition strengthens Visa’s arsenal against increasingly sophisticated digital fraud, folding BioCatch’s threat-detection technology into a network that processes trillions of dollars in transactions each year.

BioCatch specializes in analyzing patterns in how users interact with their devices — such as typing rhythm, mouse movements, and touchscreen gestures — to distinguish legitimate customers from fraudsters and automated attacks. The technology is designed to flag suspicious activity in real time without disrupting genuine users.

The move underscores how payment networks are investing heavily in artificial intelligence and behavioral analytics as online fraud schemes grow in scale and complexity. Cybercriminals have increasingly turned to social engineering, account takeovers, and AI-generated scams that traditional detection systems struggle to catch.

For Visa, the deal deepens a broader strategy of layering security services on top of its core payments business, positioning fraud prevention as a growing revenue stream alongside transaction processing.

This development comes as financial institutions and regulators worldwide press for stronger safeguards against digital fraud, which costs consumers and businesses tens of billions of dollars annually. The acquisition is one of several large technology bets by major firms seeking to secure their platforms, echoing recent moves such as multibillion-dollar technology acquisitions reshaping the sector.

BioCatch, founded to combat online banking fraud, counts numerous global banks among its clients and has built a reputation for detecting threats that bypass conventional authentication.

The transaction is expected to close following customary regulatory approvals. Terms of how BioCatch’s operations will be integrated into Visa’s existing security suite were not immediately detailed.
