China’s Belt and Road Initiative: A Decade of Foreign Aid and Global Impact
In a recent press conference, Luo Zhaohui, the head of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), highlighted China’s significant efforts in promoting Belt and Road cooperation through foreign aid over the past decade. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has witnessed an impressive scale of development, with more than 2,000 aid projects spanning across over 120 partner countries. These initiatives have resulted in the establishment of over 80 economic and trade cooperation zones, an investment of nearly $1 trillion, the training of more than 100,000 talents, and the uplifting of nearly 40 million people out of poverty.
China’s role in international development, cooperation, and aid has evolved significantly over the past decade, positioning the nation as a prominent global contributor. Luo Zhaohui emphasized that China’s commitment to the new era is unparalleled, as it has actively and effectively engaged in global governance.
The CIDCA’s role in facilitating global development has been vital, with its oversight of the Global Development Project Pool and Project Pool Financing, two integral components of the Global Development Initiative. These initiatives have seen the successful completion of more than 200 “small yet smart” projects, showcasing China’s dedication to sustainable and impactful foreign aid.
One of the noteworthy aspects of China’s foreign aid efforts has been its focus on addressing local challenges and improving the lives of people in partner countries. The CIDCA has spearheaded various projects in countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Zimbabwe, and Djibouti, addressing immediate needs and fostering positive change in these regions.
Furthermore, the CIDCA has actively participated in humanitarian relief efforts Global Development Projects, extending emergency assistance to more than a thousand occasions across over 70 countries. A prime example of this commitment was seen during the recent Palestinian-Israeli conflict, where China swiftly delivered humanitarian aid, with additional supplies en route to provide further support.
