Lu Liqing’s latest work, a square paper-cutting with a side length of 70 centimeters, showcases a big lotus at the center representing the opening and closing ceremonies as well as track and field events of the upcoming Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games. The artwork also features the event’s mascots, logo, and iconic landmarks of Hangzhou’s three World Cultural Heritage sites – West Lake cultural landscape, the Grand Canal, and the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu city.

Creating the paper-cutting took Lu about two months to finish. He shared that while paper-cutting isn’t hard, designing the artwork to reflect the spirit of the Games was challenging.

This is not Lu’s first contribution to the upcoming Asian Games. Previously, he created a paper-cutting scroll that measures 4.8 meters long and 60 centimeters wide, showcasing the history of the Games. The scroll features various elements from past events, including the host city, date, logo, mascots, and slogans.

Lu’s artistic vision and his intricate designs have received widespread appreciation from the local community and beyond. His artworks not only reflect his deep connection to his cultural roots but also serve as a tribute to the upcoming Asian Games.
