The Beijing Design and Art Expo, a central component of the Beijing International Design Week, recently opened its doors at the China National Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing. Under the theme “Rejuvenating Life,” the expo presents a diverse array of exhibits spread over three distinctive units: Beauty of Technology, Beauty of Taste, and Beauty of Life.

Occupying an impressive 17,000 square meters, the expo hosts over 100 exhibitors and features more than 10 special events. This grand gathering of international design showcases cutting-edge developments across various sectors, including culture, tourism, technology, art, food, home, apparel, and cultural creativity. The expo aims to lead visitors on a journey through the potential and possibilities of future design, immersing them in the latest industry trends and lifestyles.

The Beauty of Technology section emphasizes the innovation in digital culture and the tourism industry, leveraging emerging technologies and cross-border collaborations. Highlights include immersive experiences like the Dream Forest, the spectacular ball screen film Crossing 30,000 Miles, and the integration of AI in art and design.

In the Beauty of Taste unit, the expo celebrates global food culture, embracing the philosophy of eating according to the season. Renowned brands come together to present an accessible fusion of art and life, offering a culinary experience that tantalizes the senses.

The Beauty of Life segment is dedicated to featuring fresh and creative design works. This unit showcases the amalgamation of cultural inheritance with modern design thinking, displaying a range of innovative and inspiring creations.

In a related development, celebrated pianist Lang Lang announced the release of his new record, “Lang Lang – Saint-Saëns,” scheduled for release in March 2024. The album, to be released by Deutsche Grammophon on 2 CDs, 2 LPs, and digitally, features a collection of French works, including the enchanting Carnival of the Animals and the virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2 by Saint-Saëns. Lang Lang collaborates with his wife, pianist Gina Alice, the Gewandhausorchester Orchestra, and conductor Andris Nelsons in this ambitious project.

The album includes a dozen works for solo piano or piano four hands, blending Belle Époque favorites with lesser-known pieces by female French composers. Lang Lang’s choice to open the album with Carnival of the Animals, a piece beloved by generations of young listeners, aligns with his commitment to making classical music more accessible to children.

Internationally renowned, Lang Lang has achieved significant success both in classical and mainstream music, selling millions of albums worldwide. His influence extends beyond the music world, as evidenced by his recent recognition as an honoree in the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2023. This new album continues his mission to bridge classical music with broader audiences, using his artistry to introduce timeless compositions to new generations.
