Disney is bringing its unique brand of magic to North Carolina with the announcement of Asteria, a new Storyliving community in Pittsboro. This expansive 1,500-acre development, located within Chatham Park, promises a blend of natural beauty, community connection, and Disney-inspired experiences. Construction is underway, with home sales anticipated to begin in fall 2027 and residents expected to move in by fall 2028.
The social core of Asteria will be the “Second Star Club,” thoughtfully designed by Walt Disney Imagineering. This hub is envisioned to foster curiosity, connection, and exploration among residents. The club’s name is a nod to the celestial compass from Disney’s “Peter Pan,” and this theme will be subtly woven into the design with character-inspired details.
The Second Star Club will cater to various life stages, offering indoor and outdoor spaces for families, children, and adults aged 55 and older. It will be anchored around “Aster Green,” a central gathering lawn that connects dining, wellness, creative, and event spaces.
Among the planned signature venues within the Second Star Club are:
- Marquet Hall: A two-story signature restaurant featuring engaging design details, including a weather vane with a subtle Tinker Bell nod. It will offer indoor and outdoor seating, along with recreational options like dart boards, ping-pong, and shuffleboard.
- Piedmont Proper: A versatile event pavilion adorned with wood details and rosemaling artwork inspired by Disney stories, available for club events and private member rentals.
- The Studios: Hands-on creative spaces equipped with high-tech tools like laser engravers and fabric printers, supporting local traditions such as woodworking and quilting.
- Wellness Center: A comprehensive facility with state-of-the-art workout equipment, a lap pool, an outdoor sun deck, and a juice bar.
- Longtable Lodge: A tranquil space specifically for adults 55+, featuring a namesake long table, outdoor bocce courts, and dedicated programming.
In addition to these venues, the Second Star Club will also boast an adult-only pool, a family-friendly pool, a playground, and tennis and pickleball courts.
A unique offering within Asteria is the “Lost Key Cottage.” This five-bedroom home is designed to bring the magic of “Peter Pan” and Neverland to life, featuring whimsical details from the film. Members will be able to reserve the cottage for overnight stays, family gatherings, and special events, providing an immersive Disney experience.
Beyond the physical amenities, Asteria will feature a rich calendar of programming curated by Disney. These experiences will be organized into four pillars: Disney Enrichment Programs (workshops, craft nights), Disney Entertainment and Events (live music, movie nights), Health and Wellness Activities (yoga, fitness classes, nature hikes), and Excursions (themed trips). This programming aims to spark curiosity and encourage community bonding.
Asteria represents a significant expansion of Disney’s foray into residential real estate, following the Cotino community in California. Developed in collaboration with DMB Development, the project aims to integrate the rich traditions of North Carolina’s Piedmont region with Disney’s renowned storytelling and service. The community will offer a broad portfolio of housing options, with pricing to be announced later.
