As the sun begins to set on the last day of the legendary Glastonbury festival in southwest England, all eyes turn towards the Pyramid stage where one of music’s most iconic figures, Sir Elton John, is set to perform. A sense of anticipation hangs in the air as fans await the “Rocket Man” singer’s first-ever appearance at the festival. This performance, though a first, is also a finale, as it marks his last ever show in the UK.

Elton John‘s performance is the highly anticipated climax of two days of music under the glorious English sun. The festival has already played host to a constellation of stars, from Guns N’ Roses to the Arctic Monkeys, the Foo Fighters, Lizzo, and Lewis Capaldi. These acts set the tone, drawing in tens of thousands of music fans from around the globe, each eager to soak in the euphoria of Glastonbury.

In an interview with Sky News, John’s husband and renowned filmmaker David Furnish revealed that the performance promises to be a unique one, featuring four surprise guests chosen by the star himself. This revelation has sparked speculation among the festival-goers, with guesses ranging from pop icon Britney Spears to the chart-topping Dua Lipa.

The Pyramid stage line-up for the day also includes performances by Yusuf/Cat Stevens in the much-coveted “legends” slot, followed by music giants Blondie and Lil Nas X. But it is the flamboyant British singer, renowned for his flashy outfits and trademark glasses, who is the star of the show. The Glastonbury performance is a significant landmark in John’s career, marking the final UK show in his farewell tour.

Among the eager fans is Emily Brett from London. The 43-year-old marketing professional expresses her excitement about the communal experience of singing along to classics like “Tiny Dancer”. “What’s brilliant about Elton is it is like something for everyone, all ages,” she says, revealing she has a sparkly jacket ready to honor the performer’s signature style.

The festival’s co-organiser, Emily Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury’s founder Michael Eavis, shares in the collective excitement. Speaking to Glastonbury Free Press, she acknowledges the effort the music legend has put into crafting his unique Glastonbury set. “He’s been carving out a set that’s going to be completely unique to Glastonbury,” Eavis said. “I love his love for doing that. I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s going to be amazing.” As the fans wait with bated breath, it’s clear that this performance will be an incredible send-off for the music icon.
