Nicole Kidman Stars in Thrilling Netflix Murder Mystery “The Perfect Couple”

Nicole Kidman returns to the small screen in Netflix’s new mini-series, “The Perfect Couple,” a thrilling murder mystery where she plays Greer Garrison Winbury, a matriarch of a wealthy American family harboring deep secrets. Adapted from Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel, the six-part series is set on the picturesque island of Nantucket, where an extravagant wedding takes a dark turn.

The story centers around Amelia Sacks, portrayed by Eve Hewson, a zookeeper who is about to marry into one of Nantucket’s richest families. As the outsider, Amelia faces the disapproval of her future mother-in-law, Greer, played by Kidman. Greer, a successful murder mystery novelist, has meticulously planned a grand wedding at the family’s estate over the Fourth of July weekend. However, the festive atmosphere is shattered when a body is discovered on the shore, setting off a chain of events that threatens to expose the family’s hidden past.

Kidman, who also served as a producer on the series, expressed her excitement about returning to the murder mystery genre. “I grew up on these kinds of stories, and it’s been a while since I’ve seen something like this,” she said at the show’s UK premiere in London. Reflecting on her role, Kidman noted how different Greer is from her character in “Babygirl,” an erotic drama she recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival. “Greer is strong and powerful, and playing her was a thrilling experience,” Kidman added. She emphasized her ongoing quest to explore diverse roles that challenge her as an actress.

Liev Schreiber, who plays the family patriarch Tag Winbury, admitted he needed some convincing to take on the role. “But after talking with director Susanne Bier and Nicole, I realized how deliciously dark and wonderful this series would be,” Schreiber shared. Meanwhile, Eve Hewson, whose character Amelia navigates the complexities of joining the affluent Winbury family, expressed some envy over the sharp dialogue her on-screen relatives get to deliver. “I was the grounded, serious one,” she remarked, contrasting her role with the more flamboyant Winburys.

“The Perfect Couple” also features a stellar supporting cast, including Dakota Fanning, Meghann Fahy, Jack Reynor, Billy Howle, Sam Nivola, and Ishaan Khatter. With its mix of suspense, drama, and dark secrets, the series promises to captivate audiences when it premieres on Netflix this Thursday.
