LifestyleFoodHenrietta Tseng Shares Her Favorite Restaurants in Hong Kong and Tokyo

Henrietta Tseng, food and beverage consultant and founder of Yonna Yonna Gelato, has a deep appreciation for Japanese cuisine, drawn to its simplicity, rawness, and exquisite presentation. However, beyond the food itself, what makes her return to a restaurant is the people—the chefs and service staff who create an unforgettable dining experience.

In Hong Kong, Tseng recommends Sushi Kappo Ro Ann in Causeway Bay, where executive chef Sonoda-san brings in the freshest seafood from his hometown in Kumamoto, Japan. For a mix of Japanese and French flavors, she enjoys Tirpse, located in K11 Musea, where chef Yuta Shimizu’s passion is reflected in every dish.

When introducing visitors to dim sum and traditional Chinese cuisine, she suggests Regal Court at the Regal Kowloon Hotel, known for its authentic and diverse dim sum selection. Among her favorites are the fried shrimp with bean curd sheets and crispy char siu. Another go-to for Chinese food is Come-Into Chiuchow Restaurant, where she enjoys dishes such as crispy Puning tofu, black moss vegetarian rolls, and spare rib soup with black pepper.

For high-quality Japanese barbecue, she visits Yakiniku Great Soho in Central, where rare cuts of beef and outstanding service make it stand out. The restaurant’s manager, Shiozawa-san, ensures an exceptional dining experience, making every guest feel welcome.

Beyond Hong Kong, Tseng loves returning to Tokyo, where she frequents La Palette, a charming French bistro in Azabu-Juban. Run by a husband-and-wife team, the restaurant offers a warm, intimate experience, with chef Kogure-san’s quiet yet welcoming presence adding to the charm.

Another favorite in Tokyo is Nihon Yakiniku Hasegawa in Ginza, a one-of-a-kind yakiniku restaurant she visits annually with her best friend. Known for its top-tier beef selections and a well-curated wine list, it consistently delivers an unforgettable dining experience.

Tseng’s love for food is deeply intertwined with personal connections and memories, making every meal not just about flavors but also about the people and moments shared. Whether in Hong Kong or Tokyo, her recommendations reflect her appreciation for craftsmanship, hospitality, and culinary excellence.
