Acclaimed Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has recently announced a pause in his touring career for an indefinite period to address the challenges stemming from living with Tourette syndrome. This decision comes in the wake of Capaldi’s struggle during his performance at the Glastonbury music festival.

Only 26 years old, Capaldi had taken a three-week hiatus before his set at the much-anticipated festival held in southwest England, sharing the stage with industry legends like Elton John, Guns n’ Roses, and Lana Del Rey. After successfully performing several songs, Capaldi confessed to the audience that he was beginning to lose his voice. As he continued to struggle, his fans stepped in, singing the lyrics to keep the performance alive.

In a heartfelt post on Twitter this Tuesday, the “Someone You Loved” singer expressed his gratitude to Glastonbury, saying, “Thanks for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards.” Capaldi revealed his decision to step back from touring for the time being, expressing his disappointment but acknowledging the necessity of the move.

Capaldi wrote, “I used to relish every second of shows like this and I’d hoped a three-week break would sort me out. But the reality is I’m still adapting to the implications of my Tourette’s, and on Saturday it became evident that I need to devote much more time to getting my mental and physical health back on track, so I can continue doing everything I love for years to come.”

As per his official website, Capaldi had a demanding schedule ahead, with 26 performances planned from the end of June through October, spanning locations like Britain, Australia, and Dubai.

The Scottish artist expressed his profound regret to his fans who had planned to attend his shows, highlighting the importance of feeling well to provide performances at the caliber his fans deserve. Capaldi described the decision to pause his touring as the most difficult one he has had to make in his life but assured his fans, “I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.”

In his message, Capaldi extended his gratitude to his family, friends, team, medical professionals, and supporters, who have stood by his side “through the good times and even more so during this past year when I’ve needed it more than ever.”
