American rapper Snoop Dogg is set to learn “some new tricks” as he collaborates with Gen Z social media influencers to present the Paris Olympics to a younger audience. The 52-year-old hip hop icon, now a special correspondent for NBCUniversal, has become a key figure in the media company’s strategy to revitalize its Olympics coverage with a blend of pop culture and celebrity appeal. Snoop Dogg will explore Paris landmarks, attend various competitions, and deliver regular reports during prime-time coverage.
During a press briefing, Snoop Dogg expressed his enthusiasm for connecting with the younger generation, mentioning his children and grandchildren as part of his household. “I love getting on the same page with them. I’m an old dog who can learn new tricks,” he said.
To engage younger fans who consume content primarily on their phones, NBCUniversal is dispatching 27 influencers to the Olympics. These influencers will create content for platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube. Snoop Dogg’s involvement will include embedding with Team USA athletes, trying out different sports, and highlighting athletes’ personal stories. “It’s going to be a little more insightful, because I’ve spent time with these athletes and some of their families as well,” he explained.
In addition to his correspondent duties, Snoop Dogg will participate in the ceremonial role of torchbearer, carrying the Olympic flame during its final stretch before the opening ceremony. “I look at this as a prestigious opportunity. I’ll be on my best behavior,” he promised.
NBCUniversal’s innovative approach aims to inject new energy into its Olympics coverage by leveraging Snoop Dogg’s star power and the creative reach of Gen Z influencers. This collaboration is designed to captivate a diverse audience, bridging the gap between traditional sports broadcasting and the dynamic world of social media content.
With Snoop Dogg’s unique charm and the fresh perspectives of Gen Z influencers, the Paris Olympics coverage promises to be an exciting blend of sports, culture, and personal stories, offering viewers a more immersive and engaging experience. This initiative reflects NBCUniversal’s commitment to evolving its coverage to meet the changing media landscape and connect with fans of all ages.
