WorldMiddle EastFriendly Fire Tragedy: Kuwaiti Air Defenses Down Three U.S. F-15 Jets Amidst Operation Epic Fury

In a startling friendly fire incident, three U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses over Kuwait on March 1st. The aircraft were engaged in Operation Epic Fury, a campaign against Iran, when the incident occurred. Fortunately, all six aircrew members ejected safely and have been recovered in stable condition. Kuwait has acknowledged the event, and an investigation into the cause is underway.

The downed F-15s were part of a larger offensive, Operation Epic Fury, aimed at countering Iranian aggression. This operation involved strikes against Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones. The U.S. and its regional allies have been actively intercepting Iranian retaliatory attacks, which have targeted multinational bases and civilian infrastructure across the region. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously condemned Iran’s actions, citing threats to civilians and damage to infrastructure.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the incident, stating that Kuwait has acknowledged the mistaken downing of the jets. CENTCOM expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Kuwaiti defense forces and their support in the ongoing operation. The Kuwaiti army also confirmed that several U.S. military aircraft had crashed and that search and rescue operations were immediately initiated, with the crews being evacuated and transferred to hospitals for medical care.

The friendly fire incident occurred amidst escalating tensions and combat operations between the U.S. and its allies against Iran. Reports indicate that the joint U.S.-Israeli military operation, dubbed Operation Epic Fury by the U.S. and Roaring Lion by Israel, has led to significant exchanges. Earlier in the conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the sinking of nine Iranian naval ships and confirmed the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The conflict has resulted in casualties on both sides, with reports of American service members killed and wounded, and significant reported casualties within Iran.
