CultureFilm & TvSquid Game Season 3 Premieres June 27 as Netflix Unveils 2024 Lineup

Netflix has officially announced that Squid Game will return for its third and final season on June 27. The revelation came during the streaming giant’s “Next on Netflix” event, where a new teaser offered a glimpse into the intense and suspenseful world of the deadly competition.

The South Korean thriller first premiered in 2021, quickly becoming a worldwide sensation. Within its first month, Squid Game shattered records, reaching 142 million households and securing its place as Netflix’s most-watched original series. The upcoming season will once again follow Lee Jung-jae’s character, Seong Gi-hun, as he fights to end the brutal games.

Netflix’s event also highlighted other major releases coming in 2024. Stranger Things is set to return for its highly anticipated fifth and final season, with creators Matt and Ross Duffer revealing they shot over 650 hours of footage. Meanwhile, Wednesday, the hit Addams Family-inspired series, is back for a second season following its massive success.

The streaming service’s robust lineup has fueled its growth, with Squid Game’s return, alongside major live events such as the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson boxing match and two NFL games on Christmas Day, helping Netflix add a record 19 million subscribers in Q4. The platform now boasts nearly 302 million global subscribers.

In addition to its flagship series, Netflix is expanding its film offerings with projects from award-winning filmmakers. Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, a reimagining of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, has been in the works for over two decades. “This film has been on my mind since I was a child—for fifty years,” del Toro shared in a recorded message.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will reunite for RIP, a crime thriller based on true events set in Florida. Meanwhile, stand-up comedian John Mulaney is set to launch a live, weekly late-night show, Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney, starting March 12.

Rounding out Netflix’s upcoming slate, 30 Rock creator Tina Fey will lead an eight-episode adaptation of The Four Seasons, a 1981 romantic comedy, starring Steve Carell, Will Forte, and Colman Domingo.

With an exciting mix of returning fan favorites and fresh originals, Netflix is set for another blockbuster year in entertainment.
