‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Claims All-Time Domestic Opening Record With $360 Million

Culture'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Claims All-Time Domestic Opening Record With $360 Million

Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has secured the largest North American opening weekend in cinema history, drawing $360 million in ticket sales across the United States and Canada and edging past the long-standing record held by 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”

The final figure, confirmed by Sony Pictures on Monday, surpassed the $357 million debut of “Endgame” and revised upward the studio’s initial weekend estimate. Sony had earlier projected a $355 million debut that appeared to fall just short of the mark, but a stronger-than-anticipated Sunday pushed the film past the previous benchmark.

“Records are made to be broken, but we will take great pride in this one, for as long as we hold it,” said Tom Rothman, chairman and chief executive of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group.

The fourth Spider-Man film to star Tom Holland played across 4,487 theaters over its opening weekend. Before “Avengers: Endgame,” no film had ever opened above $300 million domestically.

The previous benchmarks came from “Avengers: Infinity War,” which launched with $257 million in 2018, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which took in $247 million in 2015. Holland’s 2021 pandemic-era release, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” opened to $260 million on its way to $1.9 billion worldwide.

The debut also helped drive a record overall weekend for cinemas in the United States and Canada, boosted by the simultaneous strong performance of “The Odyssey,” which shares cast members Holland, Zendaya and Jon Bernthal with the Spider-Man title.

The domestic box office is now running more than 15% ahead of last year, with over $6.2 billion in ticket sales recorded so far in 2026, according to data firm Rentrak.

The result underscores the continued commercial pull of Marvel’s flagship character even as the broader superhero genre has faced questions over audience fatigue. The performance echoes other recent milestones such as the record-setting debut of the studio’s Deadpool and Wolverine team-up.

With the film now holding the all-time domestic opening crown, attention turns to whether it can sustain momentum through the coming weeks and challenge the global earnings of Holland’s previous outing.
