Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi Global Inc has announced its plans to partner with new energy vehicle companies to mass-produce unmanned vehicles for ride-hailing services. At an event in Shanghai, Meng Xing, COO of Didi, revealed that the first car model under this agreement will be connected to the company’s platform by 2025.
Didi has also unveiled a concept robotaxi known as Didi NEURON, which features a mechanical arm to provide services such as picking up luggage and delivering water to enhance the passenger experience. With no driver’s seat, the vehicle maximizes passenger space and features a big-screen interactive system with services such as online meetings and gaming.
Furthermore, Zhang Bo, CTO of Didi, announced at the same event that users of the new version of the Didi app can hail autonomous-driving vehicles in designated areas in Shanghai and Guangzhou, Guangdong province.
The move into autonomous vehicles is part of Didi’s long-term strategy to become a global leader in mobility technology. With this initiative, Didi aims to improve the safety and efficiency of ride-hailing services while also providing passengers with a unique and enhanced experience.
