China Confident in Managing U.S. Trade Issues Amid Ongoing Tariff Disputes

BusinessChina Confident in Managing U.S. Trade Issues Amid Ongoing Tariff Disputes

China has expressed full confidence in its ability to handle ongoing trade issues with the United States, according to Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying. Speaking to a small group of reporters in a rural county of southwestern China, Hua made it clear that China does not fear the U.S. trade policies, which include tariffs that have caused significant tension between the two nations. She emphasized that the trade policy adopted by the U.S. administration is not sustainable in the long term, adding that ordinary Americans are already feeling the effects of the tariff dispute.

The remarks came a day before U.S. and Chinese officials were set to meet in Switzerland for high-level talks aimed at addressing the tariffs they have imposed on each other. These weekend discussions are viewed as an important first step towards resolving a trade war that has significantly impacted the global economy. U.S. President Donald Trump had suggested that the 145% tariffs on Chinese goods might be reduced, signaling a potential shift in U.S. policy.

Despite the challenges posed by the trade war, Hua reiterated China’s confidence in overcoming the difficulties it faces, noting that the country is determined to manage its economic and trade relations effectively. The Vice Foreign Minister also emphasized that China does not seek conflict with any nation but must face the reality of the situation. She underscored that people in China have full confidence in the nation’s ability to navigate the ongoing trade dispute.

Trump’s tariffs on various trading partners, including China, have raised concerns among economists who view them as a “demand shock” to the global economy. By making imports more expensive for U.S. businesses and consumers, these tariffs are expected to slow down global economic activity. Hua pointed out that these trade measures are already having adverse effects on American citizens, suggesting that the U.S. administration would eventually return to a more balanced approach to trade.

In conclusion, China remains resolute in its position regarding the trade dispute, confident that the U.S. trade policy will not be sustainable in the long run and that the global economic order will eventually stabilize.
