China Cartoon and Animation Museum held a highly anticipated press conference to announce the 19th China International Cartoon Animation Festival (CICAF), set to take place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, from June 20 to June 24. The festival promises to be a grand showcase of the vibrant world of animation, with over 20 activities spanning exhibitions, competitions, forums, business events, and more.
The scale of this year’s event is truly impressive, with 469 domestic and international enterprises, schools, and organizations from 59 countries and regions eagerly participating both online and offline. Among the distinguished guests attending the festival are renowned companies like Pixar Animation Studio, who will be unveiling their highly anticipated animated film “Elemental.” Other notable participants include industry giants such as the Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan, and the Russian Animated Film Association. Notably, companies and organizations from countries along the Belt and Road, like Kyrgyzstan, will be making their debut appearance at the festival, adding a global flavor to the event.
One of the festival’s major highlights is the International Animation and Game Business Conference (iABC), which will feature a plethora of offline activities, including one-on-one business negotiations, new film and product launches, an animation investment competition, and a special session focusing on Canadian animation. Visitors can look forward to experiencing masterpieces like “Yao-Chinese Folktales” as well as exploring more than 650 brand IPs showcased at the festival.
This year’s CICAF places a strong emphasis on promoting traditional Chinese culture, encouraging attendees and anime enthusiasts to embrace their cultural confidence by dressing up in traditional Chinese Hanfu costumes. By blending tradition with contemporary animation, the festival not only showcases China’s unique style but also aims to foster a sense of pride in Chinese heritage.
In an exciting development, a subsidiary venue will be established at the prestigious China Cartoon and Animation Museum, the country’s first national-level animation museum. The combined exhibition and activity area of the main and subsidiary venues will span an impressive 65,000 square meters, making it the largest-scale exhibition in the history of the festival. Throughout the event, the museum will host a wide range of activities, including exhibitions of traditional shadow puppet animations, professional seminars, and educational experiences, further enriching the festival experience for attendees.
The festival has much in store for animation enthusiasts, including a Character Voice competition, international animation film screenings, the China (Hangzhou) International Children’s Comics Contest, and a ceremony to honor and release Chinese youth animators. These events aim to discover and nurture the talents of young animators while preserving the rich history and promising future of animation.
A highly anticipated moment during the festival is the unveiling of the Golden Monkey Award, the highest honor in Chinese animation. This prestigious award serves as a testament to the exceptional talent and creativity within the Chinese animation industry, and its announcement is eagerly awaited by participants and fans alike.
With its diverse range of activities, international participation, and celebration of traditional Chinese culture, the 19th China International Cartoon Animation Festival is poised to be a monumental event in the world of animation. As the festival unfolds, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of cartoons and animation, appreciating the artistry and ingenuity of this ever-evolving medium.
