Beijing recently celebrated the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) by unveiling multilingual editions of “A Concise History of the Communist Party of China.” These editions include translations in Russian, French, Spanish, German, Arabic, and Italian, adding to the English version released on July 1, 2021.

Published by the Central Compilation and Translation Press (CCTP), these editions symbolize a thoughtful gift to mark the historic milestone of the CPC’s establishment. Xi Weidong, President and Chief Editor of CCTP, credited the successful publication of the translations to the collaborative efforts of numerous experts, scholars, and the editorial team.

The project’s director, Li Xiaoyan, explained that about 20 foreign experts were involved in the translation and editing processes. The translations were completed in about a year, with an additional six months devoted to editing. The multilingual editions mirror the original Chinese version, with annotations added for enhanced clarity for international readers.

Li asserted that unlike some overseas publications that may contain misconceptions or biases about the CPC, “A Concise History of the Communist Party of China” offers readers an authentic, authoritative, and valuable firsthand account. The book can be accessed through various international platforms, including renowned book fairs like the Frankfurt Book Fair.

With the English version having already experienced strong sales and multiple reprints, there are high expectations for the translated versions. The distribution of the book will mainly be through professional channels, including the China International Book Trading Corporation and the China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Co., Ltd.

The project participants believe that these foreign editions play a vital role in disseminating the story of the CPC and China to the world. They can improve China’s global image and increase its appeal and influence. Moreover, they provide valuable insights into the sinicization of Marxism and its impact on China’s meteoric rise.

Hu Baomin, president of the China Today magazine, noted that the book could satiate the curiosity of international politicians and scholars about the CPC’s role in guiding 1.4 billion people to become the world’s second-largest economy. Meanwhile, Li Ping, from the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized that these editions would allow the international community to grasp the spiritual outlook of the Chinese Communists and Chinese people better.
