In the midst of a freezing cold wave in Beijing, the city’s passion for theater remains undimmed. The Beijing International Theater Center recently hosted an engaging performance titled “Those Who Survived” by Romania’s Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu and the Radu Stanca National Theatre. This event kicked off the New Era International Showcase of Campus Theatre, an event that is drawing significant attention despite the chilly weather.
“Those Who Survived” is an adaptation of Euripides’ “Trojan Women” and “Hecuba,” focusing on the experiences of women who endured the Trojan War. The performance captivated Chinese audiences, offering a unique insight into the world of theater and the expression of diverse cultural perspectives.
One audience member, a 20-year-old woman named Wang, praised the play’s impact, noting how it enhanced her understanding of different cultural expressions and thought processes, thanks to the passionate performances by the Romanian actors.

Fu Yixuan, secretary-general of the China Theatre Association, emphasized Beijing’s role as a cultural hub that showcases the style and talent of young dramatists. This international gathering in Beijing highlights the importance of young artists in the future of drama and cultural development. Fu expressed a commitment to strengthening exchanges and cooperation within the domestic and international drama communities, providing young dramatists with opportunities for learning and growth.
