Amidst the rhythmic beats of live music and the effervescence of craft beer, the Central Harbourfront in Hong Kong is gearing up for a vibrant celebration. The creators of the renowned Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival have joined forces with the Craft Beer Association of Hong Kong to curate “Better With Beer,” an exuberant two-day event slated for this week’s Friday and Saturday.
This innovative venture follows just half a year after the Central Harbourfront pulsated with the energy of the Clockenflap festival. Moreover, it sets the stage for the iconic festival’s anticipated return this December.
One of the primary attractions of “Better With Beer” is its diverse beer menu. Attendees can look forward to more than 150 beer varieties sourced from around 20 eminent breweries and distributors. This enviable list includes notable names like Gweilo, Young Master, BrewDog, Carbon Brews, and Yardley Brothers. A major crowd-puller is the unlimited free-flow sampling of beer and beer-infused beverages, a testament to the organizers’ confidence in their selection. However, while beer takes center stage, other drinks like cocktails, wines, spirits, and soft drinks are available for purchase.
Yet, the festival is not merely a beer-tasting spree. Living up to the Clockenflap legacy, it promises a medley of live music, tantalizing food options, and outdoor amusement. The Dai Dadi entertainment tent is set to feature performances from Hong Kong’s talented bands like The Boogie Playboys, Fountain Collective, and Shumking Mansion. Complementing these acts will be DJ performances from Crimes Against Pop, South Canton Soul Train, and MouseFX.
The festival’s interactive element is heightened by The Playground, where enthusiasts can indulge in a range of outdoor games, from giant aeroplane chess to a unique beer crate bridge challenge. Those seeking a touch of whimsy can head to the Dai Pai Dong tent. Here, attendees can revel in drag bingo hosted by the dazzling Madame Mincemeat or partake in quirky activities like lip-sync battles, air guitar contests, live comedic acts, and engaging quizzes.
To cater to the gastronomic needs of festival-goers, food outlets such as KIN, Honbo, ENSO, Smoke & Barrel, and Aitch’s Biltong are on the roster.
Post indulgence, attendees can unwind in the beer garden, lounging on sustainable furniture crafted from repurposed material by the iconic denim brand, Levi’s. They also bring added excitement by sponsoring various games and competition prizes.
Reflecting on this partnership, Jason Lowe, the president of the Craft Beer Association of Hong Kong, opined, “This collaboration enables us to concentrate on our strength – offering top-notch beers.” Meanwhile, “Better With Beer” event director, Matt Jones, lauded the evolution of Hong Kong’s craft beer industry. He expressed enthusiasm about spotlighting local talent in varied formats, hinting at the inclusion of an awards component in future iterations.
The festival has been structured into three four-hour sessions spanning the two days. Ticketing details are available with early bird options, group discounts, and passes catering to diverse preferences. The event emphasizes inclusivity, ensuring that non-drinkers and hydration-conscious attendees have access to complimentary water stations and an assortment of low and non-alcoholic beverages.
This celebration promises to be a unique rendezvous of Hong Kong’s craftsmanship, music, and community spirit. Whether a beer aficionado, a music lover, or just someone seeking a fun-filled weekend, “Better With Beer” beckons all.
