The hit Korean drama The Fiery Priest returns for its second season, five years after the original series captivated audiences with its unique blend of action and comedy. Kim Nam-gil reprises his role as the unorthodox priest Kim Hae-il, a character who blends his religious duties with a penchant for fighting crime. Alongside him are returning characters, including the tough but loyal detective Goo Dae-young (Kim Sung-kyun) and the sharp prosecutor Park Kyung-sun (Lee Hanee). However, season two takes the action to Busan, where Hae-il investigates a dangerous drug ring.
New faces join the cast this season, including Bibi as the undercover officer Gu Ja-young, Seo Hyun-woo as the corrupt Busan prosecutor Nam Doo-heon, and Sung Joon, who teams up with Kim Nam-gil again after their collaboration in Island, playing the ruthless gangster Kim Hong-sik. The plot kicks off with a thrilling action scene where Hae-il, now dressed in Buddhist robes, beats up a gang of tattooed criminals who are trying to burn down a temple. The scene quickly reveals Hae-il’s dual nature when he sheds his robes to reveal his priest’s collar underneath, setting the tone for the season’s blend of humor and action.
As the series progresses, Hae-il returns to his church in Gudam, where he is surrounded by a colorful and quirky group of characters, including Sister Kim In-kyung (Baek Ji-won) and Father Han Sung-kyu (Jeon Sung-woo). When a local student, Lee Sang-yeon (Moon Woo-jin), is forced to ingest drugs, it leads to a chain of events that uncovers a nationwide drug-dealing network with roots in Busan. Hae-il and his team set off for the city to confront the criminals behind the operation.
Meanwhile, prosecutor Park Kyung-sun continues her fight against drug crime, starting with a bust in America before turning her attention to the growing drug problem in Korea. As Hae-il’s investigation unfolds, he uncovers the corruption that allows the drug trade to flourish, including shady prosecutors and politicians. Busan’s neon-lit streets and drug-fueled nightlife become the backdrop for this high-stakes adventure.
The second season of The Fiery Priest continues to deliver a dynamic mix of action, comedy, and drama, with Kim Nam-gil’s fiery performance at its core. Fans of the first season will find much to enjoy as the action moves to the vibrant city of Busan, maintaining the show’s lively pace and offbeat humor.
