Vocal Coach Eric Vetro Shares Secrets Behind Training Celebrities Like Ariana Grande and Angelina Jolie

LifestyleVocal Coach Eric Vetro Shares Secrets Behind Training Celebrities Like Ariana Grande and Angelina Jolie

Eric Vetro, a renowned vocal coach, has worked with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Angelina Jolie, and Timothée Chalamet. Known for his ability to adapt to each celebrity’s unique needs, Vetro’s training has helped these stars hone their vocal skills for demanding roles, from Grande’s operatic performance in Wicked to Chalamet’s transformation into Bob Dylan for A Complete Unknown.

In a recent interview, Vetro shared insights into his training process, revealing the key techniques he uses to help both seasoned singers and complete beginners. “I’m very careful in listening and observing my clients. I try to intuitively understand what they need,” he explains. For some, his sessions focus on improving vocal technique, while for others, it’s about preserving the voice and ensuring it stays healthy.

One of Vetro’s notable successes was preparing Angelina Jolie for her role as soprano Maria Callas in Maria. “Seven months is not a long time to train to become an opera singer, especially if you’ve never sung before,” Vetro admits. The initial lessons focused on getting Jolie to produce a sound, gradually progressing to more challenging exercises. “Each week she got a little better, and before we knew it, all these high notes were coming out. It turned out, she was a soprano,” he says, reflecting on her impressive progress.

Vetro also addressed the challenges actors face when portraying real-life singers. “You can do an impersonation of someone, but it’s about capturing what makes them special—what is it about their voice that is so magical?” he says. This approach, he believes, is crucial for bringing authenticity to performances, especially when actors take on iconic singers.

In addition to his work with celebrities, Vetro is now sharing his wealth of knowledge with the public through an online BBC Maestro course. In his course, he takes a holistic approach to singing, offering tips that go beyond technique. “What you eat, what you drink, how you take care of your body—it all affects your voice,” he says. Through his lessons, Vetro aims to give everyone, from aspiring singers to seasoned performers, the practical advice and vocal techniques that he shares with the stars.

With his unique approach to vocal coaching, Eric Vetro continues to inspire both celebrities and aspiring singers, offering them the tools to find and refine their true vocal potential.
