Sony Pictures has announced a bold cinematic project dedicated to The Beatles, with four interconnected films slated for theatrical release in April 2028. Each movie will present the band’s legendary story through the perspective of one member of the Fab Four, offering a fresh and deeply personal take on the lives of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The films, collectively titled “The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” will be directed by Academy Award-winner Sam Mendes, who revealed the details during CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
The ambitious project promises to deliver a unique “bingeable theatrical experience,” with all four films launching in close succession. Mendes emphasized the novelty of this approach, calling it an immersive cultural moment designed to draw audiences back into theaters. Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman echoed this sentiment, stating confidently, “We are going to dominate the culture that month.”
The cast includes a mix of acclaimed and rising talent. Paul Mescal, known for “Aftersun” and “Gladiator II,” will take on the role of Paul McCartney. Harris Dickinson, who starred in “Babygirl,” will portray John Lennon. Oscar-nominated Barry Keoghan, recognized for his performance in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” will play Ringo Starr, while Joseph Quinn, familiar to fans from “Stranger Things” and “Gladiator II,” will step into the shoes of George Harrison.
The four actors made a surprise appearance at CinemaCon, dressed in sleek black outfits and bowing in unison—an iconic gesture reminiscent of the band’s early performances. The visual nod to Beatles history reinforced the depth of the films’ connection to the band’s roots.
Though The Beatles’ rise to fame has been documented extensively, Mendes assured audiences there is still untapped territory within their personal journeys. By offering a film for each member, the narrative promises to go beyond the music and dive into the individual struggles, relationships, and artistic identities that shaped the band.
“The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event” is poised to become a cultural milestone in 2028, uniting music fans and film lovers alike for a theatrical experience unlike any before.
