LifestyleLisa and Jennie Shine as Solo Artists at Coachella Amid Rising K-pop Influence

Blackpink members Lisa and Jennie took the stage as solo performers for the first time at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, showcasing their individual artistry and solidifying their roles as major figures in the global music scene. Lisa, known for her dynamic stage presence, performed her hit single “MONEY” dressed in a striking red outfit as red lights amplified the atmosphere. Her performance blended hip-hop energy with signature choreography, thrilling the crowd with her confidence and charisma.

Jennie also took the spotlight, marking her return to Coachella as a solo artist after previously debuting her single “Solo” in 2018. The performances from both artists drew massive attention and underscored the increasing demand for K-pop in the U.S. music market. Their appearances were part of a broader presence of Korean artists at Coachella, which this year featured acts like ENHYPEN, the seven-member boy group, as well as XG, the Japanese girl group based in South Korea. These performances reflect the genre’s growing global reach and the continued prominence of Korean pop at international festivals.

Blackpink has a history of groundbreaking appearances at Coachella, first making waves in 2019 as the first female K-pop group to perform at the festival. In 2023, they made history again as the first K-pop headliners. Their continued influence paves the way for other K-pop acts, such as Epik High, who performed in 2016, and later acts like Aespa, DPR members, LE SSERAFIM, ATEEZ, and The Rose.

Lisa’s solo career has gained momentum following her departure from YG Entertainment in 2023. Now signed with RCA Records under Sony Music, she recently released her debut studio album, “Alter Ego,” which features 15 tracks blending hip-hop, electropop, and trap. The album includes collaborations with artists like Raye, Doja Cat, Tyla, Rosalía, Future, and Megan Thee Stallion. While pursuing her solo music, Lisa remains part of Blackpink and continues to record with Interscope. She has also begun an acting career with a role in the Max series “The White Lotus.”

Jennie has similarly branched out, making her acting debut in the Max series “The Idol” in 2023, further establishing herself as a multifaceted artist beyond music.
