The 2025 Met Gala brought a vibrant celebration of Black style and tailoring to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with celebrities embracing the theme “Tailored for You” despite heavy rain. The event honored the Costume Institute’s exhibit “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” spotlighting elegance, individuality, and the Black dandy aesthetic.
Singer Rihanna stole the spotlight by revealing her third pregnancy. She arrived last, wearing a dramatic wide-brimmed black hat and a striped, corseted bodice that emphasized her baby bump. Her partner, A$AP Rocky, had confirmed the news earlier in the evening after arriving ahead of her. Pharrell Williams, musician and Louis Vuitton menswear creative director, made a statement in an ivory jacket adorned with 15,000 pearls, paired with classic black tuxedo pants.
Musician Andre 3000 turned heads with one of the evening’s most talked-about looks — a full-sized replica of a piano strapped to his back like a backpack, merging performance art with fashion.
Co-chairs Lewis Hamilton and Colman Domingo led early arrivals. Domingo appeared in a royal blue pleated cloak, which he later removed to unveil a jeweled black-and-white jacket and grey trousers. Hamilton sported an elegant ivory suit with a beret, channeling classic sophistication.
Among other notable guests, Vice President Kamala Harris made a low-key appearance in a long black-and-white gown, shared via the Democratic Party’s social media. Legendary actor Shah Rukh Khan wore a silk black sherwani with layered necklaces, including one bearing the letter “K.” Actress Zendaya arrived in a striking white silk suit and brimmed hat, while her Euphoria co-star Sydney Sweeney shimmered in a sparkling black gown.
Olympic gymnast Simone Biles brought a burst of color in a short bright blue dress with a crisp white collar. Director Spike Lee made a sporty statement in a black suit with a silver crossbody bag, orange-framed glasses, and a Knicks cap. Pop artist Chappell Roan turned heads in vivid hot pink.
Accessories played a big role in the evening’s style narrative. Bad Bunny carried a retro brown-and-yellow bowling bag, while Tessa Thompson paid tribute to late fashion icon André Leon Talley with a handheld fan bearing his image.
Though honorary chair LeBron James missed the event due to a knee injury, he expressed his regret on social media, recognizing the historic celebration of culture and creativity that unfolded without him.
