Gigi Leung Wing-kei, born in 1976, is a Hong Kong singer and actress whose career has spanned more than three decades. Known initially as a Cantopop sweetheart in the 1990s, she first gained attention in the film Full Throttle (1995), where her role as Annie earned her a nomination for Best New Performer. Her early image as the “girl next door” was solidified with the release of her debut albums Love Myself and Short Hair, which contributed to her growing popularity across Hong Kong, Taiwan, mainland China, and Southeast Asia.
Leung grew up in Hong Kong, attending Maryknoll Convent School and later the School of Design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She was discovered while still a student, after appearing in a commercial, and soon made her film debut in Doctor Mack (1995). Alongside a successful music career with over 20 albums, Leung starred in numerous films including Tempting Heart (1999) and Turn Left, Turn Right (2003), which highlighted her ability to portray emotionally complex characters.
She also embraced stage performance, appearing in theatrical productions such as A Midsummer Night’s Fantasy and The Great Entertainer, where she played over ten roles. As she matured, Leung moved beyond her initial image, embracing bolder styles and themes, including a 2007 concert performance that showcased a more daring stage persona. In the 2014 film Aberdeen, she portrayed a character facing ageism in the entertainment world, a role she described as a personal breakthrough.
Philanthropy has been central to Leung’s life. She became an ambassador for UNICEF and WWF and co-founded the Hope Education Foundation to support underprivileged children. She also co-authored a children’s book to raise funds for charity and helped build schools in mainland China.
In her personal life, Leung was in a long-term relationship with actor Ekin Cheng before marrying Spanish national Sergio Crespo Gutes in 2011. The couple has a daughter named Sofia, born in 2015.
Today, Leung continues to act and perform, with recent roles including the film Hit N Fun. She is also an entrepreneur, running a luxury childrenswear brand, Mibonbón, that offers handcrafted Spanish apparel. Her journey reflects a commitment to reinvention and purpose across art, family, and philanthropy.
