Continuing their unbeatable streak in international competitions, China’s top female divers Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan grabbed the championship title in the women’s 10-meter platform synchro at the world aquatics championship held in Fukuoka, Japan. The pair’s outstanding performance, which earned them a total score of 369.84 points, led them to victory over the second-place British duo Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Lois Toulson by a significant 58.08 points.

Since the commencement of the diving competitions in Fukuoka on Friday, Team China has collected a total of five gold medals. The success was not only attributed to the remarkable performance of the female duo but also the strong showing by Peng Jianfeng in the men’s 1-meter springboard competition.

The impressive victory by Chen and Quan in the preliminary round further solidified their dominance in the field, outscoring the second-placed Team USA by a vast 71.28 points. This win also secured their spot in the diving competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The 16-year-old Quan, who was the youngest athlete in the Chinese delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, is already a household name in the world of diving. Her partner, Chen, though often seen in Quan’s shadow, emphasized the importance of their friendly rivalry in driving their performances to new heights.

Their advanced techniques and exceptional execution have garnered widespread admiration from Chinese audiences. The duo, known for their “water splash vanishing techniques,” has received an outpouring of congratulatory messages on their social media accounts.

The Fukuoka Prefectural Pool, the venue for the current world championships, holds special significance for the Chinese diving team. Zhou Jihong, the head of the national diving team, reminisced about competing at the same venue at the 2001 worlds, marking an interesting parallel between the past and the present Chinese diving talents.
