Alexis Badel Considers Happy Together for Group Three January Cup After Saturn Handicap Win

SportsAlexis Badel Considers Happy Together for Group Three January Cup After Saturn Handicap Win

In the thrilling world of Hong Kong horse racing, Alexis Badel, a renowned French jockey, is contemplating a significant step for Happy Together in the upcoming Group Three January Cup. This comes after Happy Together’s impressive performance at the Class Two Saturn Handicap at Happy Valley. Trained by Frankie Lor Fu-chuen, the four-year-old miler showcased his potential, indicating readiness for higher challenges.

Happy Together, previously trained by Richard Gibson, has shown remarkable progress, securing three wins in his last four starts under Lor’s guidance. In the Saturn Handicap, Happy Together, priced at $8.35, demonstrated skill and agility, settling comfortably in midfield before making a decisive move in the final stretch. With Vincent Ho Chak-yiu’s bold maneuver on Galaxy Witness setting a brisk pace, Happy Together responded swiftly under Badel’s guidance, taking the lead and maintaining it against his competitors.

Badel, having achieved his fourth victory in seven rides with Happy Together, sees the January Cup as a viable opportunity for the horse. He praised Happy Together’s adaptability and resilience, emphasizing his impressive turn of foot irrespective of the race pace. While the decision ultimately rests with the trainer, Badel’s recommendation for the January Cup stems from his confidence in the gelding’s capabilities.

The night also saw triumphant performances from horses under new trainers this season. Pierre Ng Pang-chi celebrated consecutive meeting wins with Life Is Good, another horse formerly trained by Gibson. Life Is Good, in his debut for Ng’s stable, exhibited a strong comeback after a significant hiatus, hinting at future successes.

Similarly, former Tony Millard trainee Gallant Valour achieved victory in the Class Four Mars Handicap for Jamie Richards. Richards, facing early-season challenges, expressed hope for continued momentum following the win.

The Happy Valley race meeting was a showcase of talent, strategy, and potential, with horses and trainers alike demonstrating their prowess. As the racing season progresses, eyes will be on Happy Together and his team’s decision regarding the January Cup, an event that could mark a significant milestone in the gelding’s racing career.
