‘La Dolce Vita’ Trains to Revolutionize Luxury Rail Travel in Italy

Travel'La Dolce Vita' Trains to Revolutionize Luxury Rail Travel in Italy

Italy is introducing a revolution in its rail service, with the upcoming luxury ‘La Dolce Vita‘ trains, which will offer slow, opulent journeys through the country’s stunning landscapes. Combining the joys of sustainable travel with extravagant comfort, these trains provide an unparalleled experience for a selected few who appreciate the art of slow, indulgent travel.

The La Dolce Vita service, set to begin next year, is aimed at passengers willing to pay a premium for the luxury of time. With tickets ranging from €6,000 for two people to €25,000 per night for the most exclusive cabins, the trains offer one to three-night trips from Rome, through Sicily, and several scenic destinations such as Palermo, Venice, and Portofino.

Paolo Barletta, CEO of luxury travel group Arsenale, described the experience as “a luxury cruise but on rails,” highlighting the romantic allure and unique charm of train travel. As the tourism industry picks up post-pandemic, the company sees a rising trend among high-end travelers seeking unique, sustainable, and guilt-free experiences.

The La Dolce Vita experience is not just about the journey but also the extravagant amenities on board. The converted rolling stock from the national operator Trenitalia will feature suites with fine wood panelling, sitting rooms, private bathrooms, and interiors inspired by 20th-century Italian design. Moreover, fine dining at brass-trimmed tables with local Italian wines and delicacies, alongside unique on-board experiences like vintage Polaroid photo sessions, will add to the luxury voyage’s appeal.

Each 12-coach train will accommodate only 62 passengers, ensuring a bespoke travel experience. These trains will also take secondary tracks close to the mountains and seaside, allowing travelers to enjoy breathtaking views. The unique feature of these journeys is the flexibility for passengers to get on and off for events, such as night visits to Venice’s St. Mark’s Basilica or performances at Milan’s renowned La Scala opera house.

Arsenale, investing €240 million to kick-start the service, has plans to expand the concept to the Arabian Peninsula, marking a new era in luxury train travel. Interestingly, pre-registrations for the first La Dolce Vita trips are already open, with enough €500 deposits paid to fill all available spots for 2024.

Undoubtedly, ‘La Dolce Vita’ trains are set to redefine luxury travel by offering a unique blend of lavish comfort and sustainable exploration, providing affluent travelers a distinctive and memorable journey through the heart of Italy.
