The China-Pakistan Textile and Apparel Executive Summit and Business Meetings, a landmark event in the textile industry, were successfully convened on December 15 in Kunshan, East China’s Jiangsu Province. This summit, a crucial platform for bilateral trade discussions, witnessed the participation of over 100 delegates, including representatives from the Chinese and Pakistani governments, trade associations, and leading textile and apparel enterprises.
2023 marks a significant year as it is the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the initiation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The Deputy Mayor of Kunshan, Zhang Feng, highlighted the CPEC as a flagship project under the BRI, emphasizing its role in fostering substantial cooperation, particularly in the textile and apparel sector. This sector presents extensive opportunities for mutual growth and collaboration between China and Pakistan.
During the opening address, Zhang expressed optimism that the summit would further catalyze exchanges and deepen cooperation within the textile and apparel industry. The event underscored the importance of building stronger trade relationships and exploring new avenues for economic partnership.
Gohar Ejaz, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce and Industries, emphasized Pakistan’s robust textile sector. He pointed out the country’s advantages, including favorable natural conditions for cotton production, a competitive workforce, a comprehensive industrial chain, and access to international markets. Ejaz proposed joint ventures between Chinese and Pakistani enterprises, focusing on different aspects of the textile value chain. He assured comprehensive support for Chinese businesses investing in Pakistan.
A significant highlight of the summit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles (CCCT) and the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association. This MOU is set to bolster economic and trade cooperation between the textile and apparel industries of both countries.
The CCCT, in a post-summit statement, expressed that the MOU would be instrumental in promoting and strengthening the textile and apparel sector. It is anticipated that this collaborative effort will elevate bilateral trade, investment, and supply chain cooperation in the textile and apparel sector to new heights.
