BEIJING — The annual celebration of music, Fête de la Musique, also known as Music Day, launched by the French Ministry of Culture in 1982, will illuminate the summer season across six Chinese cities. This eagerly awaited event signifies the return of international artists to the Chinese performance scene, heralding a resurgence of live entertainment following the global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festivities will commence this Friday in Wuhan, located in Central China’s Hubei Province. Eight talented Chinese bands hailing from vibrant cities like Shanghai and Chengdu in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province will join forces with four renowned French bands for an exhilarating tour, encompassing prominent Chinese cities, including the capital Beijing and Shenyang in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province.

Jean-Yves Roux, the esteemed Consul General of France in Wuhan, lauded the 2023 Music Day for its grandeur and stellar lineup, promising a truly luxurious experience for attendees. The French performance group boasts a diverse range of artists, including the ethereal pop singer Charlie Motto and the genre-blending ensemble Ours Samplus, known for their captivating fusion of hip-hop, jazz, and electronic music.

The music extravaganza is an integral part of the Croisements Festival, an annual two-month-long cultural event fostering artistic exchanges between China and France, encompassing film, music, art, and literature. From April to July, over 65 captivating projects will unfold across more than 20 cities throughout China, captivating audiences nationwide.

Since its inception in 2006, the festival has attracted a staggering participation of over 15 million people in China. The 2023 Music Day is slated to conclude on June 24, leaving a lasting impression on the cultural landscape and enriching the lives of music enthusiasts throughout the country.
