CultureArtCeramic Art and Design Exhibition Launches in Wuxi

The city of Wuxi, located in East China’s Jiangsu Province, recently became the stage for a unique exhibition. This showcase, dedicated to the “Ceramic Art and Design” project, was presented by Tsinghua University and opened to the public last week.

Dr. Yang Fan, the project leader and a doctoral supervisor with the Department of Ceramic Art and Design at Tsinghua University, highlighted the vital role of ceramic art as a significant carrier of Chinese culture. The exhibition was curated to prompt discussions about how innovation in ceramic art can be achieved in the contemporary world, an issue Dr. Yang deems as crucial.

Beyond exploring new directions in ceramic art and design, the exhibition also underscored the critical role that educators play in this creative field. Dr. Yang noted the importance of strengthening higher vocational education in ceramic art and design. He emphasized that teachers are indispensable within the education chain, as they serve as a crucial starting point in the learning journey of the students.

Qin Chuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Academy of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University (AADTHU), echoed this sentiment in his speech at the exhibition’s opening ceremony. He praised the teachers participating in the training project for their significant contributions. He noted that the teachers, who are often behind the scenes, deserved to be recognized as the protagonists of the exhibition.

“In this exhibition, those frontline teachers who participated in the training project have made a difference. They are also the protagonists of the exhibition, walking from behind the scenes to the front stage,” Qin said.

The exhibition offers a platform not only to celebrate the exquisite craft of ceramic art and design but also to acknowledge the educators who guide, mentor, and inspire creativity in this field. As it brings to light the combined prowess of creativity and teaching, the exhibition invites its audience to delve deeper into the world of ceramic art and the educational dynamics that shape it.
