The 45th Razzie Awards, Hollywood’s annual satirical event recognizing the worst in film, saw “Madame Web” emerge as the biggest winner, taking home awards for worst picture, actress, and screenplay. The American superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics character, led the evening’s list of dubious honors.
Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix satire “Unfrosted” also made an impact, earning him the worst actor award, while Amy Schumer received worst supporting actress for the same film. Sharing the spotlight with two wins each were “Joker: Folie à Deux” and “Megalopolis.” The highly anticipated “Joker” sequel was named worst prequel, sequel, remake, or rip-off, while also taking worst screen combo. “Megalopolis,” directed by acclaimed filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, earned him the worst director award, while Jon Voight received worst supporting actor.
Coppola responded to his film’s Razzie wins with an Instagram post, embracing the awards with sarcasm. He expressed pride in being recognized in multiple categories, stating that his film challenges the conformity of modern moviemaking. Criticizing the industry’s fear of risk, he suggested that today’s films lack the bold creativity necessary for long-term relevance.
The Razzie Redeemer Award, given to a past nominee who has since improved their career, went to “The Last Showgirl,” starring Pamela Anderson. More than 1,100 Razzie members from the United States and around the world participated in the voting process, which aims to spotlight Hollywood’s most criticized performances and productions.
With its mix of high-profile nominees and controversial wins, the 45th Razzie Awards once again brought attention to the films that audiences and critics found most disappointing. While some accept the recognition with humor, others, like Coppola, push back against the industry’s standards.
