Drombeg Banner Aims for a Winning Streak at Happy Valley Racecourse

SportsDrombeg Banner Aims for a Winning Streak at Happy Valley Racecourse

Trainer Pierre Ng Pang-chi is gearing up for an exciting race night at Happy Valley as his charge, Drombeg Banner, seeks to extend his winning streak in the Class Two Saturn Handicap (1,650m). This marks Drombeg Banner’s first venture into the city circuit after demonstrating formidable form over 1,400m at Sha Tin.

Drombeg Banner, a four-year-old gelding, has already left a significant impression in his Hong Kong racing career. With two stunning victories under his belt this season, Ng believes Happy Valley presents a timely and suitable challenge for the gelding.

Drombeg Banner’s racing strategy has been straightforward yet effective. In Ireland, where he secured three wins from five starts, he consistently employed front-running tactics. This approach continued to pay dividends in Hong Kong, starting with a surprise victory in the Class Three Lung Fu Shan Handicap over 1,600m in January, where he was ridden by apprentice jockey Angus Chung Yik-lai.

Chung’s partnership with Drombeg Banner proved successful again in the Class Three Faculty of Education Alumni Handicap over 1,400m, where the duo claimed a head victory against Solid Impact. Ng credits the gelding’s success to allowing him to settle into a comfortable pace and utilize his swift acceleration in the stretch.

Drombeg Banner resumed his winning ways after a significant break, claiming victory in the Class Three Neogence Handicap over 1,400m in November, narrowly edging out Green N White and Beauty Fit in a thrilling finish.

In his most recent race, the Class Two Chevalier Car Dealership Handicap, Drombeg Banner, now under jockey Andrea Atzeni, continued his pattern of success. Despite the challenge of starting from barrier 10, he managed to lead from start to finish, securing his position as a strong contender in the racing field.

As Drombeg Banner prepares for his debut at Happy Valley, expectations are high for this resilient gelding. With his consistent performance and strategic racing style, he stands as a prominent figure in the racing community, ready to take on the new challenge and potentially add another win to his impressive record.
