Paris, a city renowned for its romance, history, and fashion, once again became the epicenter of global fashion trends during its famed Paris Fashion Week. In a series of fashion events that boasted participation from giants like Chanel, Hermes, and LVMH’s Louis Vuitton, Coperni’s show stood out with its audacious merger of tech and textile.
Coperni, a label that has become synonymous with innovation since its inception in 2013, took the Parisian fashion landscape by storm. The creative visionaries behind the brand, Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, selected a unique location for their presentation – a sprawling underground sound research center nestled in the heart of Paris.
As attendees settled in, the ambiance was palpable. The vast space held a looming wall of loudspeakers which, when activated, marked the commencement of what would be a show for the ages. The sheer brilliance of using sound as a prelude to a fashion event underscored Coperni’s reputation for pushing boundaries.
The collection showcased bore witness to the duo’s vision of marrying the past with the future. Models, led by iconic figure Naomi Campbell, graced the runway exuding confidence and grace. The ensembles were eclectic, ranging from free-flowing suits to sheer, form-fitting dresses. Bra tops made an appearance alongside jeans, creating a juxtaposition of casual comfort with high fashion.
What stood out, apart from the seamless blend of styles, was the brand’s emphasis on wearability. The garments were “designed to be worn lightly”, as reiterated in the show notes. In line with this vision, Meyer and Vaillant presented a series of pared-back designs, including open-backed dresses that teased a hint of sensuality, trousers with strategically shortened hems that showcased models’ legs, and unusually long shirt sleeves, trailing behind like ethereal scarves.
Sound played a pivotal role throughout the event, highlighting the designers’ attention to detail. The room echoed with a unique composition dominated by the sounds of rustling fabric. In a poignant moment, the clear tinkle of a triangle instrument filled the air, perfectly synchronizing with the display of clothing adorned with triangle cutouts.
But the innovative streak didn’t end there. The show also unveiled a series of futuristic sportswear pieces, the product of a commendable collaboration with sports giant Puma. These designs came complete with flat, square-toed sneakers, an evident nod to future fashion. Amplifying the tech theme, some models showcased Coperni’s Swipe bag CD player, replete with headphones, fusing nostalgia with modernity.
Coperni has never been one to shy away from the spotlight. The label, in past editions of Paris Fashion Week, has created memorable moments, from spray-painting a dress onto supermodel Bella Hadid to introducing robot dogs on the runway. This year’s presentation, with its embrace of technology and forward-thinking designs, was no exception.
As Paris Fashion Week continues its course, concluding on October 3, attendees and fashion enthusiasts worldwide eagerly anticipate more groundbreaking moments, both from industry stalwarts and budding designers alike.
