UK Pizzeria Charges £100 for Hawaiian Pizza in Anti-Pineapple Stunt

LifestyleFoodUK Pizzeria Charges £100 for Hawaiian Pizza in Anti-Pineapple Stunt

A popular pizzeria in Norwich has made its stance on pineapple pizza abundantly clear by pricing a Hawaiian at £100 in an effort to discourage customers from ordering it. Lupa Pizza, known for its artisanal approach, listed the item on a food delivery app with a cheeky description: “Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on, you monster!”

Co-owner Francis Wolf didn’t mince words when explaining the restaurant’s position. “We vehemently dislike pineapple on pizza,” he said. “We feel like it doesn’t suit pizza at all.”

Head chef Quin Jianoran, the other co-owner, confirmed that while the restaurant keeps tinned pineapple on hand just in case, no one has actually ordered the expensive Hawaiian yet.

The move taps into the longstanding debate over pineapple as a pizza topping, a discussion that often sparks strong opinions. Italians have long opposed the idea, considering it a crime against traditional pizza, while Hawaiian pizza has a loyal following worldwide.

A recent poll by YouGov revealed that over half of Britons either love or like pineapple on pizza, while 16% dislike it and nearly 20% hate it. Even public figures have weighed in—former politician Ed Balls has called the combination “appalling.”

Lupa’s anti-pineapple stance stirred reactions on social media, with supporters and critics voicing their opinions. One user defended the topping, declaring, “Pineapple on pizza is life.” Another called the £100 listing a genius marketing move.

At the restaurant, customers were similarly split. Builder Simon Greaves, 40, firmly rejected the idea, saying pineapple should never be on pizza. However, teenager Johnny Worsley, 14, ranked Hawaiian as his second favorite after pepperoni, though he admitted he wouldn’t pay £100 for it.

“I don’t think anyone will,” Worsley added.

While no one has yet taken the challenge, Lupa Pizza’s anti-pineapple stunt has successfully reignited the debate. Whether customers will eventually order the pricey dish remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—Lupa has made it clear where they stand on pineapple pizza.
